Real Madrid's Marcelo has declared himself "the best left-back in the world" as he prepares to make a comeback from a broken metatarsal.

Marcelo picked up the injury in a training session in October and has since spent a frustrating stint on the sidelines. The Brazilian insists a key part of his recuperation is believing in his own ability.

"I think I am the best left-back in the world because I have to believe in myself," Marcelo told Globoesporte. "I have to think about myself and continue growing [as a player]."

The Brazil international is set to make his return next month, and he revealed his compatriot - and former Real defender - Roberto Carlos has been inspirational during his recovery period.

"I felt my foot buckle," Marcelo added. "My legs were shaking but I did not think the injury was that bad.

"[Roberto Carlos] is my idol, everybody knows that. Even today, when I talk to him I get nervous. He was always the best."
