M'Vila could be out until January

Fabien Perrin, France Correspondent

Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila could be out for until the New Year due to a knee injury picked up during last weekend's win over Paris Saint-Germain.

The France international - who is currently banned from representing Les Bleus until 2014 - had to be replaced in the first half of Saturday's match at the Parc des Princes, which Rennes won 2-1 despite playing most of the second half of the game with nine men.

''Tests revealed a sprained medial ligament in his right knee", said the club in a statement. ''The duration of his absence is not known yet."

The nature of the injury means that M'Vila can be expected to miss three to four weeks of action. With Ligue 1's winter break starting on December 23, Rennes could be without the 22-year-old until the competition resumes in January.

Should that be the case M'Vila will miss seven matches, six in the league as well as the Coupe de la Ligue quarter-final against Troyes.
