Roberto Di Matteo has revealed Chelsea captain John Terry could return to action in only three weeks.

There had been fears that Terry could miss much of the rest of the season when he injured his knee in a collision with Liverpool forward Luis Suarez during the 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

However, subsequent MRI scans led the Blues to announce that he would be out for "weeks rather than months", and Di Matteo has now announced that he could be back early next month.

"With JT we're looking at approximately three weeks out," Di Matteo told a press conference on Friday. "Fortunately it's not as bad as we first thought. It's an MCL (medial cruciate ligament) strain.

"Terry's injury was unfortunate as he looked sharp and gave the team a lot of confidence, but you have to deal with injuries."

Terry will miss some key games during his absence, including the Champions League trip to Juventus on Tuesday and the Premier League clash at home to Manchester City on November 25, but he could be back in time for the trip to Sunderland on December 8.
