France sits Yann M'Vila until 2014

ESPN.com news services

Midfielder Yann M'Vila was banned from participating with the French national team until after the 2014 World Cup for violating a curfew, the French Football Federation said Thursday.

M'Vila is off the team until the end of June 2014 for going to a nightclub last month along with several other members of the Under 21 squad in between two playoff games for the 2013 European Championship.

He will miss the 2014 World Cup, which runs June 12-July 13.

Four others also left their Le Havre training camp in the early hours for a Paris nightclub, but M'Vila's experience -- with 22 full caps -- made him the senior player in the squad.

The 22-year-old had earlier been suspended for a match for not shaking hands with Laurent Blanc and substitute Olivier Giroud when he was taken off the pitch against Spain during the European Championship in June.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
