Roma open to De Rossi offers

Adam Digby, Italy Correspondent

Roma general manager Franco Baldini has revealed the club would give consideration to further offers for Daniele De Rossi, who appears to be out of favour under coach Zdenek Zeman.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has previously made clear his desire to sign De Rossi, 29, and the Premier League champions saw an offer - widely reported to be worth €50 million - turned down in the summer.

The Italy international had said at a press conference in August that he had never asked to leave, was happy with the club and would make an announcement if he changed his position over the matter, but there are suggestions that he has issues with Zeman, who took charge of the club in the summer.

De Rossi has started only six games this season, and reports in the Italian press have suggested that, aside from any problems with the coach, some members of the board would be keen to offload the midfielder for financial reasons. Baldini had recently dismissed talk that Roma need to sell the player to raise capital, but he has now indicated that he could be available at the right price.

He told Sky Italia: "In the summer, there was an offer made by Manchester City - we listened to that offer and considered it. If we were to get another offer we would listen again, but we could easily turn it down, as we did the first time."

De Rossi, under contract until 2017, is also said to have attracted interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, Zeman praised his players after they bounced back from two successive 3-2 defeats to beat Palermo 4-1 at the weekend.

The coach, whose position has come under scrutiny after a disappointing start to the season, told Sky Italia: "When you win people say there are improvements, but we had done pretty well in other games, too. We got a good result. I am happy for the lads and hope they continue to believe in this style of football."

He added, though, that his players must not "get complacent or think everything has been sorted out".

Roma take on Lazio in the Derby della Capitale next weekend and Zeman said: "Usually the team that is the favourite loses the derby."
