Khedira hopes Dortmund progress

Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira is hopeful that Borussia Dortmund can join his side in the next round of the Champions League.

Manchester City's surprise 3-1 defeat at Ajax last time out has left them bottom of Group D ahead of this week's fixtures, and Germany international Khedira is optimistic that Madrid and Dortmund can both qualify for the last 16.

"Real Madrid and one other team will go through," Khedira said in an interview with the website of Madrid's shirt sponsors, bwin, on Sunday. "I am not going to predict who, but obviously, as a German, it would be nice for me if Dortmund do go through. I think they also deserve it."

Dortmund currently top the group with seven points from three games after drawing 1-1 at Eastlands in October and beating Madrid 2-1 last time out, and Khedira added: "They have been German champions two years running and are now playing very well in the Champions League.

"Personally I would be very happy for them although what I really hope is that Real Madrid finish in first place, and the rest does not matter to me."

Khedira has not played since limping out of the defeat to Dortmund with a thigh muscle problem and remains a major doubt for Tuesday's return match at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
