Jones on guard for draw with Newcastle

Australian goalkeeper Brad Jones produced a string of saves after retaining his place in Liverpool's starting lineup, helping the Reds to a 1-1 English Premier League draw with Newcastle.

Sunday's clash was Jones's fifth successive match as Liverpool keeper with regular number one Pepe Reina still recovering from a hamstring injury.

While Jones made two saves, a powerful strike into the far corner of the goal from Yohan Cabaye proved too much for the Australian, allowing Newcastle to take the lead in the closing minutes of the first half.

They held that lead until star Liverpool striker Luis Suarez produced an equaliser in the 67th minute.

With five draws Liverpool sits mid-table in the Premiership standings.

Jones may be back to the substitute bench for next Sunday's clash with the competition's second-placed Chelsea, when Reina is expected to be back at full strength.
