Adelaide recall van Dijk for Phoenix clash
By Steve Larkin
Adelaide United have summoned Sergio van Dijk for his first A-League match of the season while declaring the out of contract striker won't be leaving the club.Van Dijk will start against Wellington Phoenix on Saturday at Hindmarsh Stadium as Reds coach John Kosmina seeks a greater physical presence. The 2010-11 Golden Boot winner missed the opening three A-League games with a calf injury amid speculation he may have been seeking a transfer. But Kosmina said van Dijk, while welcome to speak to other clubs, isn't going anywhere."If Serg wants to talk to a club next week, he can talk to a club next week - we can't stop that," Kosmina told reporters on Friday."He is legitimately out of contract."But as far as leaving, the transfer window finishes next week as far as I understand, and he's not going anywhere."Asked if van Dijk was a "must have" for next season, Kosmina replied: "We'll wait and see."But the Reds mentor was in no doubt about what he wanted from the star striker against the Phoenix."We need strike power and we need physical strike power as well because of the sort of team Wellington are," Kosmina said."They (Wellington) played okay against Brisbane last week and had them on the ropes for a while."And they make it difficult - they are well organised, they're disciplined, they're good competitors and they can play football."We need to be a little bit more aggressive ... we're at home so we should be aggressive, and that is not trying to bash anybody, but we got to be competitive, assertive, that is probably a better word."Kosmina also recalled defender Iain Fyfe to the starting line-up, replacing the rested Nigel Boogard for what will be Brazilian left-back Cassio's 100th A-League match for the Reds."He (Cassio) is part of the fabric of this club and the culture it has," Kosmina said."It's important that it is recognised by the club, by his teammates and also the football community."
