Hulk, 26, was the subject of intense transfer speculation this summer before completing a €40 million move from Porto to the Russian club.
The Brazil international, who has two goals in six games for Zenit, told FIFA's official website: "I'm certain that, in the future, Zenit will be one of the biggest teams in Europe.
"Before I signed for Zenit, I'd spoken to [coach Luciano] Spalletti. He sold the club to me very well, telling me about the great structure that was in place and their project of building a great side."
He said that neither he nor Porto had been interested in some of the offers that were made for his services during the summer transfer window.
