Rivaldo: Brazil stars must go to Europe

ESPN staff

Rivaldo has told Brazil's young stars they must head to Europe as soon as possible in order to stand a chance of World Cup glory on home turf in 2014.

• Neymar: Oscar wants me at Chelsea
• Kaka revels in Brazil recall
• Blog: Barca don't need Neymar

Neymar has remained with Santos despite interest from the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United, while another burgeoning Selecao talent, Ganso, has also spurned advances from European sides.

Lucas Moura is one player who has taken the plunge - agreeing to sign for PSG during the summer and set to move to France in January - and Rivaldo, 40, who enjoyed two lengthy spells playing in Europe, says the experience the likes of Neymar and Ganso can gain will make the difference when it comes to claiming a sixth World Cup title.

"We all need some changes every now and then," Rivaldo said. "Neymar must leave Brazil and his familiar surroundings. He should come to Europe in order to gain experience.

"We were already talking about the same matter in relation to players like Ganso and Lucas a year ago. They will be there for the World Cup and need to move as well.

"You need experience at the World Cup and the best way to gain experience is to play against the best, which is the case in Europe. These players have to make the move to Europe as soon as possible."
