Burnley youngster faces heart surgery

Burnley youngster Jack Errington has been ruled out for the rest of the season after the news emerged that he will have to undergo heart surgery.

Errington, 17, was shown to have an enlarged aorta during a routine heart screening, while further tests confirmed that he will require an operation.

The defender, who signed his first professional deal with the club in the summer, will return home to the north east to undergo the procedure and start his rehabilitation.

"We wish Jack and his family all the best and will make sure he continues to get the best possible care,'' said manager Eddie Howe.

"This shows the value of heart screening for all young footballers and while it's a blow for Jack in the short term, the good news is that he can still hopefully have a successful career ahead of him.''

Errington, who has yet to break into the first team, featured in both legs of Burnley's FA Youth Cup semi-final last season.
