Fluminense streak ahead of competition

Fluminense took advantage of another slip from Atletico Mineiro to stretch their lead at the top of the Campeonato Brasileiro with a 1-0 win at Flamengo.

Fred scored the only goal in the 18th minute as Flu continued to put distance between themselves and Atletico, who yesterday saw their winless run reach four games. Flamengo had Ramon sent off in the last minute.

Neymar's difficult week continued as he was sent off in Santos' 1-1 draw at third-placed Gremio.

The superstar forward, under fire in Brazil for a magazine cover which depicted him as Jesus on the cross, saw red in the 53rd minute for a challenge on Para having already been booked. Five minutes later, though, Bruno Rodrigo struck to equalise Werley's first-half opener, and Leo Gago was dismissed late on to even up the numbers.

Osvaldo scored six minutes from time to salvage a 1-1 draw for 10-man Sao Paulo at Coritiba. Things had looked bleak for the visitors when Everton Ribeiro scored from the spot after an hour and Rhodolfo was sent off in the 77th minute.

Romarinho scored twice as Corinthians beat Sport Recife 3-0. Paulinho grabbed the opener, with all three goals coming in the second half.

Leandro Matos and Helder were the goalscorers in Bahia's 2-0 win over Botafogo.
