Lucas: Worst year of my career and life

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has described an injury-hit 2012 as the worst year of his career and life.

Lucas, 25, injured his knee against Chelsea in November 2011, forcing him out for the remainder of last season.

The Brazil international finally made his comeback in August, only to later limp off just four minutes into Liverpool's second league game of the season against Manchester City with a thigh injury.

And after being ruled out for another three months, Lucas has been left feeling at breaking point.

"This is the worst year of my career and of my life as well. When we can't do what we like to do and perform your job, it's always a bit frustrating," he told Sportv.

"Everything is a bit new to me because I have never had so many injuries. Two in a row is very complicated.

"We tried to stay positive when the first one happened, but the second one was much tougher as it happened so close to the other one."

Lucas, who signed for Liverpool from Gremio in 2007 for 5 million, made a slow start to his Anfield career but established himself as a key player before his double injury setback.
