Landreau calms concerns over Lloris

Fabien Perrin, France Correspondent

France goalkeeper Mickael Landreau is confident compatriot Hugo Lloris will establish himself as Tottenham Hotspur's first-choice No. 1.

Lloris, 25, signed for Tottenham from Lyon on transfer deadline day for around £12 million, but, despite being France's captain, will have to bide his time for regular action at Spurs.

Brad Friedel, 41, is currently Andre Villas-Boas' first-choice shot-stopper, and the American's foothold in the team has sparked concern in France over the future of Lloris.

Landreau, though, is unconcerned - citing Lloris' recent involvement in the Europa League against Lazio as a sign he will soon make an impression.

The Lille player told RTL: "In the short term, I can understand the debate, but I do not find it particularly worrying for Hugo

"It will evolve. Already there is the Europa League - so it does not mean he does not play. The Europa League games are quite interesting.

"He continues to play for France, and he was outstanding in the last two matches. His Europa League involvement may just be the start for him."
