United interested in Ogbonna

ESPN Staff

Torino sporting director Gianluca Petrachi has claimed that Manchester United are interested in signing their centre-back Angelo Ogbonna.

Ogbonna, 24, enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, helping his side win promotion back into Serie A, while also earning a place in Italy's Euro 2012 squad.

Sir Alex Ferguson may see Ogbonna as an important signing for United considering their defensive injury problems with Michael Carrick having to fill in at the back at times.

Petrachi revealed that Old Trafford scouts have visited Turin in the past to watch the player but is adamant the player, who has also been linked with moves to Juventus and AC Milan, is going nowhere unless the club receive an offer of at least 16 million.

"I guarantee there are observers of many foreign clubs who follow our games, including United's scouts," Petrachi is quoted as saying by Tuttomercatoweb.

"Most of the time they come just to see Ogbonna because he is a player who has great potential. Last year we refused 10 million for him but it is clear he is worth more than 16 million. Angelo has the desire to do better but I believe he should continue to grow with Torino."
