Morrison hoping for Olsson commitment

David Instone

James Morrison is keeping his fingers crossed that Jonas Olsson will follow his lead and commit his long-term future to West Bromwich Albion.

Morrison, one of the stars of Albion's encouraging start to the season under new boss Steve Clarke, underpinned his standing as the club's longest-serving player by last week signing a new four-year contract.

And he hopes Olsson, around whom there was much speculation before and after his summer trip to Euro 2012, will decide he wants to stay at the Hawthorns as well.

Skipper Chris Brunt, for whom Olsson has deputised on occasions this term, is another player Albion are looking to tie up.

"This is my sixth season here and I'm committed to the club," Morrison said. "I feel settled. There was no reason for wanting to leave. It feels like home. I'm 26, the longest-serving player and I quite like that. Hopefully, other players like Chris Brunt and Jonas Olsson will now follow."

Morrison moved south from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2007, a year before Olsson's bargain 800,000 arrival from Dutch club NEC Nijmegen.

The tall Swede is out of contract next summer though, and Albion have been trying to ensure he stays and doesn't drift away on a free at the end of the season - especially to another Premier League club. The new first-time dad is thought to have had his eyes open to a move to London for family reasons.

Brunt's situation is less urgent as he still has two years left on his current deal, plus a 12-month option.

The Northern Ireland international is approaching the 200-match mark for the club, although a pre-season injury has helped restrict him to only substitute outings in the league this term alongside starts in the Capital One Cup and for his country.
