Lionel Messi on Barcelona bench news services

Lionel Messi came off the bench Saturday for Barcelona against Getafe and promptly scored two goals.

Messi came on for Thiago in the 59th minute and scored on a 74th-minute penalty. He added another goal four minutes later.

Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova told Marca on Friday that Messi's participation in Saturday's La Liga match was questionable after returning to Barcelona from Buenos Aires earlier this week.

Messi played for Argentina in its 1-1 draw against Peru Tuesday in a World Cup qualifying match.

"This morning I spoke with him, and he said he has recovered well. Tomorrow I will talk with him again," Vilanova told Marca on Friday. "It will depend on how he is and then we will decide what we will do."

Barcelona will also be without injured playmaker Andres Iniesta for Saturday's match.
