Patrick Vieira is excited by the prospect of Manchester City developing their own young talent and feels the multi-million pound training facility and academy will encourage young players to believe they will be given a greater chance of success at the club.
• Work starts on City's new academy
"It is a long-term commitment from the football club and I am really excited about it because once you see the pictures then you can't wait for the work to start," Vieira said. "I think the club are creating something fantastic because when you are a footballer you want to develop yourself and you are looking for the best facilities to do so.
"Those facilities will give all the young players from the youth to the first team the chance to improve themselves and to challenge themselves. Especially for the youth, because when you bring a young talented player to your club, you want to give them the best chance to achieve their dream of playing for our first team, and I think those facilities will give them what they will need to improve themselves.
"When you are a young boy form Africa and you come into a football club like Man City and you have the chance to train everyday in the facilities like them it is something you dream about. Because when you are young, you know that there is still a long way to go to play professional football as there are still so many difficulties you will find, and I believe a good way is to give them the best facilities they need to improve themselves.
"I do not have any doubt that if you are young, talented and a hard worker and you have got these facilities you will have more chance of being successful. What I find really exciting about the project is that before designing the facilities they have been to the football world, the basketball world and the NFL world, so a lot of hard work has been done around the project.
"That is why I believe it is the best project around in all sports because people have spent a lot of time traveling around the world and trying to capture the best in every sport and bring it here.
"I believe that football development is a really important part of it but I think the project will help the people in Manchester because it will create jobs for the local people. It will regenerate the city and the economic aspect will be very important as well. That's why I think as a football club you feel proud to be part of something really good."
Vieira believes it is also giving something to the local community as he said: "Of course it gives them a sense of pride and a sense that, as a football club, we care about them as we are doing something and creating something for them. There will be 5--6 acres for the community to use and the people from outside will come and enjoy the facilities and I don't think you will find that anywhere else.
"Manchester was really industrial and at the end of the project it will be a place where you will find trees and families can go and enjoy it. This area of Manchester is completely going to change, and I think it will benefit everyone who loves Manchester and who lives there.
"To be honest I have been at the club for two and a half years and I have been really surprised about how the club dedicates time for the community.
"I have had the chance to work with that department and I think they are doing a fantastic job. This project will be no different in that almost all the workers and providers will be local. This is what makes this football club special, as for years and years they involve local people in every project they are doing and I really feel this kind of relationship with the locals and the club which makes the club really special."
