Wenger: Sagna is committed to Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he believes Bacary Sagna is committed to the club despite recent comments expressing his dissatisfaction with the Gunners' transfer policy.

Last week, the defender told L'Equipe he had been surprised by the club's decision to sell Alex Song to Barcelona and said: "We expected Robin Van Persie to leave, but not Alex Song ... it was a surprise.

"This is a huge loss for the club. When you see two of the best players from last season leave, you ask a lot of questions. I understand that the fans are upset. I, like them, do not quite understand.

"[Song] is 24 years old, and he still had three years left on his contract. I don't understand that at all. You return from holiday, you're preparing, you see two players leave the club ... It's been like that since I have been at the club. I'm used to it."

But Wenger insisted Sagna, who is continuing his recovery from a broken leg, will not be following Song and Van Persie out of the Emirates and said: "Bacary's interview doesn't reflect the love he has for this club.

"He has always given full commitment. Bacary loves the club, and I think he will stay here."

Wenger reiterated that England midfielder Jack Wilshere is moving closer to a return to first-team action, but added that he would not be in contention to face Southampton this weekend.

"Wilshere is good news for us because he is making quick progress now," he said. "Next week? No - but he will join full training soon."

The manager also confirmed that goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is available again after recovering from injury but midfielder Abou Diaby, who suffered a hip injury while playing for France against Finland, is 50-50.
