Be patient, Olsson urges Rosenberg

West Bromwich Albion defender Jonas Olsson has urged his fellow Swede Markus Rosenberg to be patient as he waits for his Premier League chance.

Striker Rosenberg, 29 - who, like Olsson, was a member of Sweden's Euro 2012 squad - is being kept out of Steve Clarke's starting line-up by the in-form Shane Long.

"You always look forward to new players coming in," Olsson said. "It freshens things up, and the new guys have already done well.

"For me, it was nice that Markus joined us because he is already a good friend. I know him from the Swedish team. He's a really good player. He will bring a lot of good things to the team going forward, and the fans will enjoy watching him."

Rosenberg, who turns 30 later this month, has so far had to be content with 12 minutes of top-flight action as a substitute in the draw at Tottenham, although he played most of the 4-2 Capital One Cup victory at Yeovil three days later.

Long has scored three times already, and Olsson said: "Markus' first task will be to get in the team, which isn't easy. I really feel that this year we have a great depth in the squad. You look at the bench and there are a lot of really good players on there.

"That is so important, because we all know it's a long season in England. Everybody will get their chance at some time and, when that chance comes, you have to take it."

Olsson is in the final year of his Hawthorns contract but opted to remain at the club after a summer in which he was strongly linked with a move away.

"It is massive that Jonas is still here," his central defensive colleague Gareth McAuley said. "We hit it off with the partnership straight away. We developed it last season and we're looking to make it even better again.

"Hopefully he can get things sorted and be here for the foreseeable future."
