Dempsey frustrated by Fulham

New Tottenham signing Clint Dempsey is frustrated by the way Fulham handled his exit from Craven Cottage.

Dempsey, 29, signalled his intention to leave the Fulham at the start of the summer, and seemed destined for a move to Liverpool.

Amid allegations that the forward was tapped up by Brendan Rodgers, his move to Anfield stalled, before Martin Jol dropped him from his squad.

Rather than ending up on Merseyside, the USA international instead became a last-minute singing for Andre Villas-Boas when he elected to sign on at White Hart Lane.

"There were some things that were said that weren't true,'' he told Sky Sports.

"That's in the past now. It's about looking toward the future and like I said, I'm looking forward to playing with Tottenham. It's a great team, a great club.''

Despite his acrimonious departure from Craven Cottage, the attacker praised the Fulham fanbase for how they treated him during his time with the club.

"I want to thank the fans of Fulham. It's been five great years." Dempsey said.

"Some of my best memories in football have been there. I want to thank the chairman for taking a chance on me from MLS and I wish them well in the future.

"I'm disappointed in the way I was portrayed, in the end, with Fulham. I always wanted to play at the highest level possible. That was never a secret. That's something I always said.''
