Prandelli names Italy squad

Adam Digby, Italy Correspondent

Cesare Prandelli has named his squad for Italy's upcoming games against Bulgaria and Malta, making a number of interesting decisions following his side's impressive showing at Euro 2012.

Napoli striker Lorenzo Insigne has received his first senior Italy call-up after some hugely impressive displays for both the Naples club and the national Under-21 side.

Giampaolo Pazzini returns after bagging a hat-trick on Saturday in his first start for Milan, while in stark contrast his former team-mate Antonio Cassano, who moved the other way to Inter, is left out.

Manchester City's Mario Balotelli is also absent from the list, needing to undergo eye surgery in a bid to cure his recurring issues with conjunctivitis.

Goalkeepers: Buffon (Juventus), De Sanctis (Napoli), Sirigu (Paris St. Germain), Viviano (Fiorentina)

Defenders: Astori (Cagliari), Balzaretti (Roma), Barzagli (Juventus), Bonucci (Juventus), Cassani (Fiorentina), Maggio (Napoli), Ogbonna (Torino)

Midfielders: De Rossi (Roma), Diamanti (Bologna), Giaccherini (Juventus), Marchisio (Juventus), Nocerino (Milan), Pirlo (Juventus), Poli (Sampdoria), Verratti (Paris Saint-Germain)

Strikers: Borini (Liverpool), Destro (Roma), Giovinco (Juventus), Insigne (Napoli), Osvaldo (Roma), Pazzini (Milan)
