Pardew accepts FA charge

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has accepted his FA charge following an altercation with an assistant referee in the club's game against Tottenham.

Pardew, 51, reacted angrily having thought the official had missed a throw-in for his side moments before Spurs shot narrowly wide, but has admitted his mistake.

An FA statement read: "Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has accepted an FA charge of improper conduct following his side's match against Tottenham Hotspur on 18 August 2012. Pardew has requested a personal hearing."

Following the incident on Saturday, the Newcastle manager was openly apologetic, saying: "It was ridiculous and I apologised publicly. He was right in front of me and I thought the ball was out and I shoved him. I went to see him and told him it was stupid and I don't know what I was thinking.''

He was immediately sent to the stand after a discussion between referee Martin Atkinson and fourth official Lee Mason.
