Jozy Altidore scores twice for AZ

ESPN.com news services

For the second straight week, American striker Jozy Altidore has scored twice for Dutch club AZ Alkmaar.

Altidore helped AZ to a comfortable win 3-1 at home to Heracles Almelo on Sunday.

AZ dominated from the outset and went ahead in the 16th minute when Roy Beerens delivered an inch-perfect cross from the left and Altidore fired home at the far post.

Altidore gave AZ a two-goal cushion in second-half stoppage time by unleashing a low right-footed shot from the edge of the area that flashed beyond Remko Pasveer.

Altidore also scored twice last week in a 2-2 draw with Ajax.

Sunday's win leaves AZ third in the league after two games, level with second-place Ajax and two points adrift of early leaders FC Twente.

Last season, Altidore scored 15 goals in the Eredivisie and four more in the Europa League.

Also Sunday, American forward Matt Taylor scored a hat trick and set up another goal in the German Cup on Sunday as third division Preussen Muenster beat Werder Bremen 4-2 in extra time.
