Anderson raring to go

Manchester United midfielder Anderson is confident he is back to full fitness and is gearing up for what he sees as the most important season of his career.

The Brazilian had been a key member of United's squad last season until he was sidelined by a knee injury in November, and a hamstring problem subsequently saw him make just three appearances in 2012.

But the 24-year-old has returned to pre-season training and is determined to make his mark as United bid to reclaim the Premier League title from rivals Manchester City.

"I started last season with no problems but then I started to feel my knee a bit," Anderson told the club's official website. "It's just one of those things - some players have injuries and others don't. It's unfortunate it happened to me but I just got my head down and worked as hard as I could to get back.

"And when I came back I thought everything was fine, but then I had more bad luck. I'm just focused on staying fit now and doing my best to work hard and give 100 per cent for the team. I've been training for a few days now and I feel good. I had a nice holiday and I've had no problem with my leg.

"This season it's very important that I don't have any more injuries. I need to prove what I can do. I know the boss and my team-mates believe in me, I've just had bad luck. I want to improve as much as I can and help the team win trophies."

Anderson believes if Sir Alex Ferguson's squad can stay free of long-term injuries, they will be strong enough to fend off the challenge of City.

"We had so many injuries last season, and bad injuries as well, to lots of players. Some were out for a couple of months at a time and some longer. That definitely had an effect on our title challenge. If we keep everyone fit, I feel confident we will win the title."
