Redknapp: Russia 'a fantastic job'

Harry Redknapp claims to have not yet been contacted by the Russian Football Union (RFU) but has labelled the vacant post "a fantastic job".

• Redknapp named on Russia shortlist
• Redknapp interested in Russia - agent

The RFU took the unusual step of naming a 13-man shortlist as part of its process of appointing a replacement for Dick Advocaat, who left the role after Euro 2012.

Redknapp, who is without a club after parting company with Tottenham in June, was named among the candidates, with the likes of Rafael Benitez, Pep Guardiola and Fabio Capello also targeted.

The ex-Spurs boss had been expected to become the new boss of England, only for Roy Hodgson to be handed the role, yet it seems Redknapp is still open to international management.

Redknapp told the Sun: "I haven't been contacted but I'm sure it's a fantastic job for someone."

The RFU statement released on Tuesday read: "The Russian Football Union has officially informed that the organisation plans to consult, in full compliance with the rules of FIFA and UEFA, the appointment of the head coach of Russian national team, with the following experts: Rafael Benitez, Anatoliy Byshovets, Marcelo Bielsa, Valery Gazzaev, Josep Guardiola, Fabio Capello, Andrei Kobelev, Yuri Krasnozhan, Marcello Lippi, Valery Nepomnyashchy, Nikolai Pisarev, Harry Redknapp, Yuri Semin."
