Sampdoria deny Santon speculation

Sampdoria have denied claims that they are interested in bringing Davide Santon to the club from Newcastle.

Speculation that Santon could be moving to the newly-promoted Serie A club first surfaced when Circo Ferrara - who had made him the captain of his Italy Under-21 side - was appointed as coach.

But sporting director Pasquale Sensibile denied any move for the 21-year-old full-back was on the cards, adding: "Santon has decided to go and play in a country where the football is different from ours. He is a player who is not part of our transfer objectives."

Santon moved to Newcastle from Inter Milan via a loan spell at Cesena, and has also been linked with a move to Roma.
