Watford striker Troy Deeney has been jailed for ten months after pleading guilty to affray at Birmingham Crown Court.

Deeney, 23, was involved in a street brawl involving a group of students outside a nightclub, with the footballer caught on camera kicking one of the victims in the head. The fight left one man with a broken jaw and another requiring 20 stitches to a mouth wound.

A statement on Watford's official website read: "Watford FC wishes to confirm that it is fully aware of sentencing relating to Troy Deeney, passed at Birmingham Crown Court today (Monday June 25 2012).

"Neither the club nor individual officials will be making any comment at this time. The club will issue a further, fuller statement within the next few days."

Deeney signed for Watford from Walsall in 2010, making a total of 46 appearances last season and was the club's leading scorer with 12 goals.
