Barcelona have confirmed that sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has agreed a contract extension until 2014.

Former Barca goalkeeper Zubizarreta, who arrived at the club in 2010 as a replacement for Txiki Begiristain, has now committed to a one-year extension as the club prepares for a new era under Tito Vilanova.

A statement on the club's official website read: "FC Barcelona have agreed to extend football director Andoni Zubizarreta's contract for an additional year. The director's contract was set to expire on June 20, 2013. Therefore, Zubizarreta will stay with the club through June 30, 2014.

"The agreement includes a clause that would extend the length of the contract through June 30, 2016."
