Fiorentina president Mario Cognigni believes that managerial target Vicenzo Montella could be the ideal candidate to take the helm next season.
Fiorentina have been on the hunt for a new manager since sacking Delio Rossi earlier this month, after an incident which saw him coming to blows with midfielder Adem Ljajic on the final day of the season.
Montella, who is contracted to Catania, has been strongly linked to the position, having guided his side to a respectable 11th place finish in his debut season at the helm.
Cognigni told Gazzetta dello Sport: "Montella could be the right coach to start a new project. However, we know Montella is under contract with Catania and we know there are rules that have to be respected. We are monitoring the situation considering that Montella has expressed his wish to start a new adventure.''
Montella is also considered a front-runner for the vacant manager's position at Roma this summer and is set for meetings with the Catania board later this week to put an end to speculation over his future plans.
