Earthquakes overcome Galaxy

San Jose Earthquakes took over the lead in the MLS Western Conference with a 3-2 win away to 10-man Los Angeles Galaxy.

Hector Jimenez gave Galaxy the lead after three minutes but he was then sent off on the hour.

Despite being reduced to 10 men the home side extended their lead through Mike Magee. But goals from Steven Lenhart, a Khari Stephenson penalty and Alan Gordon secured all three points for the visitors.

New York Red Bulls came from behind to extend their Eastern Conference lead to two points with a 1-1 draw against Chivas USA. The visitors took the lead through Juan Pablo Angel but Dan Richards earned the home side a point.

Justin Meram and Emilio Renteria scored for Columbus Crew who won 2-0 away to Seattle Sounders.

FC Dallas led through a goal from Matt Hedges but Sebastian Grazzini and Marco Pappa scored to seal a 2-1 win for Chicago Fire.
