Chelsea confirmed on Tuesday that Drogba will leave Stamford Bridge when his contract expires this summer. His final kick for the club was the match-winning penalty in last Saturday's Champions League final against Bayern Munich.
Drogba has been linked with a move to the Chinese Super League club for several months now, and talks have apparently commenced between the two parties.
Shanghai owner Zhu Jun told the Oriental Sports Daily: "As of now, Shenhua's negotiations with Drogba are continuing just as planned."
Nicolas Anelka, Drogba's former strike partner at Chelsea, is the player-manager of Shanghai Shenhua.
Drogba has reportedly ruled out a transfer to another Premier League club, in the face of rumoured interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
