Capello cools Chelsea talk

Former England manager Fabio Capello has said that specualtion linking him with a move to Chelsea is wide of the mark.

Reports on Friday suggested that Capello, who resigned as England manager in February, had an interest in succeeding Andre Villas-Boas as the full-time boss at Stamford Bridge.

But, while Capello is looking for a top job in the Premier League, he dismissed the rumours when talking to Sky Sport Italy, saying: "There is nothing true about the speculation."

Earlier, Capello's son and lawyer Pierfilippo revealed that his father was recently close to landing the top job at Chinese club Guangzhou, but distanced hi, from the vacant Chelsea manager's job.

Asked about Chelsea, Pierfilippo told TuttoMercato: "Unfortunately, these are just wonderful inventions by newspapers. A future in China the same as [Marcello] Lippi? My father was already close to the same club [Guangzhou], then it all came to nothing.

"[But] any possibility cannot be excluded, as long as the project is successful and exciting."

Pierfilippo later told Sky Sport Italia that Fabio "has had no contact with Chelsea, but other clubs have stepped forward.

"As of today, there is no chance of that happening. I was also astounded to read these reports, but there really is nothing in it. He has had no contact with Chelsea.

"Other clubs have stepped forward, but these were only initial contacts and not any actual proposals. This is the month of transfer games and so much talk, but contracts are not signed now.

"The economic issue comes later, as when negotiating the first aspect we ask about is the potential of a side, the desire to buy players and seasonal objectives."
