Moyes set for Everton transfer talks

Everton boss David Moyes will meet chairman Bill Kenwright "in the next week or so" to discuss the club's summer transfer policy, as he attempts to build on the Toffees' successful second half of the season.

Back in December, Moyes' side were languishing in 14th place in the table, but after the Scot made a trio of astute January signings - bringing Darron Gibson and Nikica Jelavic in on permanent deals, and capturing former midfielder Steven Pienaar on loan - Everton have improved vastly in 2012.

Victory over Newcastle on Sunday would secure a seventh-placed finish and ensure the Toffees end the season ahead of Merseyside rivals Liverpool for the first time in seven years.

Moyes has spent much of his decade-long reign at Goodison Park working with a shoestring budget and Everton supporters have regularly demanded their boss be supported with more investment.

The former Preston manager believes he needs to make additions ahead of the 2012-13 campaign if he wants to keep the club on an upward trajectory, though he claimed financial backing is not the be-all and end-all.

"I will meet Bill Kenwright in the next week or so," Moyes said. "We did not need a great deal of cash to turn it around in January, so without an awful lot we could give ourselves a fighting chance of getting back up the rails again.

"I do not need reassurances about managing Everton and it's not as if this is absolute desperation. We will just have a talk about things.

"I just want to be able to compete, to be ambitious and to give the people something to cheer about more often."

The form of Pienaar and Jelavic has been particularly impressive since January and Moyes is hopeful of making the former's return to the club from Spurs permanent.

"We are addressing the Pienaar situation," Moyes said. "He wants to stay, I want him to. It will be down to finances."
