Wolfsburg manager Felix Magath has opened the door to a possible Wolfsburg return for Europa League winning midfielder Diego.
Diego, 27, has spent the last season on loan with Atletico Madrid, after falling out with Magath last August when he stormed out of the tram hotel having not been picked to face Hoffenheim in a Bundesliga fixture.
Magath, having watched Diego play a starring role as Atletico marched to a 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League final, is now willing to see the Brazilian return to the Wolfsburg fold.
"All you can do is congratulate him on his fantastic performance. He played an excellent game,'' Magath told German newspaper, Bild.
"He has a contract with us from July 1 and, as things stand, I expect him to appear for pre-season training,'' added Magath. "Our fans can look forward to seeing him again.''
The case mirrors that of striker Patrick Helmes, who was demoted to train with the youth team at Wolfsburg, before returning in January to score ten goals in ten games, earning a place in the Germany squad for Euro 2012.
