De Guzman eyes return to Eredivisie

Villarreal midfielder Jonathan de Guzman is considering leaving the club after only one season and returning to the Eredivisie having grown tired of life on the bench.

De Guzman, 24, joined the Yellow Submarines for €8.5 million from Mallorca last summer, having previously made his name with Feyenoord. However, the former Netherlands Under-21 international has revealed his unhappiness at recent events; notably the sacking of three coaches throughout the season.

"Since January I have not seen any football action," De Guzman told NUSport. "The last two games under previous coach Jose Molina, I was not even considered for selection.

"Now we are with Miguel Angel Lotina, our third coach of the season, and he does not know me yet."

The midfielder admitted that he is eyeing a return to the Dutch league where he can make an impression on the national side.

"I'm longing for playing time," he added. "On the one hand, I think it is too early to come back to Netherlands, but on the other hand, if I do well, I might be noticed more by the Dutch national team coach."

De Guzman has yet to make his senior debut for Oranje, although has impressed at U-21 level.
