Eamon Zayed scored a hat-trick as Iranian side Persepolis jumped to the top of Group D in emphatic fashion with a 6-1 win over Al Shabab of the United Arab Emirates in Tehran.
Brazilian Ciel temporarily reduced the deficit to 3-1 with a 56th-minute strike but further goals from Gholamreza Rezaei, Ali Karimi from the penalty spot, and Amir Feshangchi wrapped up the win.
Also in Group D, Qatari side Al Gharafa staged a dramatic recovery when all seemed lost to claim a 3-3 draw against Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia.
Adil Hermach gave the Saudis a 16th-minute lead and despite a Diego Tardelli equaliser, Al Hilal restored their lead first through Youssef El Arabi then Abdullah Al Zoari.
But the hosts hit back to take a point with Tardelli reducing the deficit in the 78th minute with his second of the night, and a dramatic Otmal el Assas penalty in injury time saw Al Gharafa claim a draw.
Another Iranian side, Sepahan, stay top of Group C after a 1-1 draw at Al Ahly of Saudi Arabia. Bruno Correa put Sepahan ahead on 35 but Victor Simoes equalised from the spot in the fourth minute of injury time.
Two goals from Diane gave Al Nasr of the United Arab Emirates a 2-1 win over Qatari side Lekhwiya. Diane struck in the 37th and 90th minutes sandwiching a 42nd-minute strike from Moumouni Dagano.
