Brasileirao champions Corinthians have parted company with former Brazil international Adriano after the striker failed to show enough commitment to returning to full fitness.
Adriano joined Corinthians from Roma in May 2011 before the striker suffered an Achilles injury. The 30-year-old subsequently lost fitness and the club's sporting director Roberto de Andrade believes the controversial star did not do enough to see out his contract, which was due to expire this June.
"Corinthians did everything to help Adriano," de Andrade told Radio Globo. "He said that himself.
"We did everything in our power to make him fit again. We came to the conclusion it was best to terminate the contract and he agreed."
Adriano refused to weigh himself after training last Friday before asking permission to miss Sunday's practice session altogether. It is understood the striker's recent behaviour enraged Corinthians officials, who moved to part ways with immediate effect.
