Blues to play at Yankee Stadium

Chelsea and Celtic will face each other in a pre-season friendly at Yankee Stadium in New York this summer.

Celtic defeated New York Yankees in the first major football game to be played at the Stadium on June 28, 1931 and the sport has not been played at the iconic baseball venue for 36 years, with the last game being the New York Cosmos thrashing of the Miami Toros 8-2.

The stadium was rebuilt three years ago, so it will be the first time the New Yankee Stadium has ever seen football played.

No date has yet been confirmed for the game, but it is understood Chelsea, who enjoyed a successful tour of the United States in 2009, will also play matches in Philadelphia, Washington DC and Seattle.
