Johnson took part in a training session on Tuesday in preperation for the friendly at Wembley but it was later revealed he would be playing no part against the World Cup runners-up.
The Liverpool defender, who won the Carling Cup on Sunday, is the second right-back to be ruled out but with Micah Richards, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling all capable of operating in the role, Pearce has opted to draft in Lescott, a surprise omission in the first place.
Wayne Rooney, Darren Bent, Kyle Walker and Tom Cleverley have also pulled out of the England party - although in those instances, Pearce opted not to call-up a replacement.
