Latics close in on Beausejour

Chile international Jean Beausejour looks set to return to the Premier League after Wigan Athletic agreed an undisclosed fee with Birmingham for the transfer of the winger.

Beausejour is due at the DW Stadium to discuss personal terms, as the top-flight's bottom side look to inject fresh blood into their survival bid.

The 27-year-old has been on Roberto Martinez's radar since the summer, when the Latics failed in an attempt to sign Beausejour.

However, Championship promotion-chasers Birmingham are now ready to let the player they signed from Mexican side Club America for £3 million in August 2010 leave St Andrews.

Beausejour made a total of 14 starts and 11 substitute appearances for Birmingham last season, including a second-half outing in the Carling Cup triumph over Arsenal at Wembley.

Following City's relegation from the top flight and the subsequent raft of departures, Beausejour has been a more consistent performer for the midlands club in the second tier.

He has made 22 league starts and nine cup outings, including six in the Europa League, bagging goals against Club Brugge and Burnley along the way.
