USA winger Rogers signs for Leeds

Leeds United have agreed a deal to sign USA international Robbie Rogers, subject to the winger being granted a work permit.

Rogers, 24, is available on a free transfer after his contract with MLS side the Columbus Crew ended after the 2011 season.

Leeds manager Simon Grayson told the club's website: "We're delighted to have agreed a deal with Robbie. He's been training with us and he came to [the] Arsenal [FA Cup tie] to get a feel of the group.

"He has been playing in the MLS where he has done well, he wants to continue his career in Europe, and we believe he will make an impact here.

"As soon the work permit business is complete he will be an immediate part of our plans and have an opportunity with the first team."

Rogers is not automatically eligible for a work permit because he has not played at least 75% of competitive matches for USA over the last two years, but Leeds are confident of acquiring the relevant paperwork.

Leeds are currently eighth in the Championship, one point off the play-offs and seven points away from the automatic promotion places to the Premier League.
