Morecambe boss Jim Bentley is set to hand a debut to Jordan Mustoe in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Preston as he contends with a host of injury problems.

Mustoe has moved to the Globe Arena on a one-month loan from Wigan and is set to come into the defence in place of Robbie Threlfall, who will spend three to four weeks on the sidelines with a grade two thigh strain.

Goalkeeper Barry Roach missed out on the goalless draw with Burton due to an adductor problem and will be assessed, with former North End shot-stopper Andreas Arestidou poised to continue after making his league debut at the weekend.

Goalkeeping coach Lee Jones has agreed non-contract terms to provide cover.

Bentley has further worries at the back from Saturday after Will Haining limped off with a knock in the second half and Andrew Wright collected a fifth booking of the season to acquire a one-match ban, meaning youngster Will Bell could feature after also joining the Shrimps squad on a non-contract basis with Andy Parrish (ankle) sidelined.

Kevin Ellison serves the final game of a three-match ban, while fellow forward Danny Carlton (knee) is a long-term absentee.

Preston will be without Shane Cansdell-Sherriff.

Cansdell-Sherriff received two bookings in seven second-half minutes during Saturday's lacklustre 3-1 npower League One defeat at Oldham and the defender must serve a one-match ban.

David Buchanan and Paul Huntington suffered knocks in the win over Doncaster last Tuesday but both recovered to be named in the matchday squad at Boundary Park, with the former starting on the left side of midfield.

North End boss Graham Westley is expected to rotate his squad after taking a portion of the blame for the weekend loss.

"It's a very bad day at the office and I obviously picked the wrong team because we didn't have the right energy levels,'' he said afterwards.

Winger Lee Holmes (gashed leg) and Lee Trundle (knee) remain long-term absentees.
