Bolton defender Danny Butterfield looks set to make his first start for the club when the Trotters welcome Huddersfield.

The 33-year-old defender, who arrived on loan from Southampton on Thursday, is expected to make his first league start for 12 months - the last coming back in April 2012 when the Saints ran out 4-0 winners over Coventry.

His promotion into Dougie Freedman's starting line-up looks likely because Tyrone Mears is out for the foreseeable future and Sam Ricketts is suspended.

Fellow Welsh international Craig Davies also saw red in the 3-2 defeat to Charlton on the weekend and he will also miss the clash with Simon Grayson's men.

Freedman is not refusing to rule out a late play-off charge despite the disappointing defeat at The Valley last time out.

Huddersfield midfielder Adam Clayton will miss out through suspension, but manager Mark Robins has no other selection problems.

Clayton reached 10 yellow cards for the season in Saturday's home defeat to Hull and starts a two-game ban, so Scott Arfield and Chris Atkinson could come into contention.

Otherwise, Robins will choose from an unchanged squad with winger Danny Ward, strikers Theo Robinson, Sean Scannell and Lee Novak, plus defenders Calum Woods and Murray Wallace all pushing for recalls.

Defender Joel Lynch missed out altogether on Saturday and could be recalled to the squad.

Midfielder Keith Southern is making good progress, but remains sidelined as he recovers from a long-term Achilles injury.

The Terriers, two points above the bottom three, have won three and lost three of their last six league matches.
