Dick Advocaat expects visiting Dnipro to put on a defensive performance in Thursday's Europa League Group F match against his struggling PSV Eindhoven side.

The Eredivisie side lie bottom of the qualifying table with four points from as many matches and need victory to put themselves back in realistic contention.

But Advocaat accepts the group toppers are unlikely to make it easy for them by indulging in an open contest.

Advocaat found his team selection criticised after the away fixture against the Ukrainians, who won 2-0, but he rejects suggestions he sent out a weakened side and instead drew attention to the opposition's tactics.

"I think some of the comments were more than a little misplaced,'' he said.

"We were surprised in Ukraine because they were playing so defensively in their own stadium.

"I expect to see more of the same here.

"But PSV has played for 38 continuous years in Europe and we play the strongest possible team in all matches and we do so again on Thursday.''

That team is nevertheless set to be missing key players including Mark van Bommel, Kevin Strootman, and Jetro Willems.

Club captain Van Bommel, who missed a month with knee trouble earlier in the season but has played the last two league matches, said: "It has nothing to do with rest but with physical injury.

"Even if we had played on Thursday against Vitesse, I would also not be available.''

Dnipro lost their first match of the campaign in Napoli last time out, the Serie A side triumphing 4-2.

Despite that they can be cautiously optimistic about their prospects of securing a place in the last 32 with a match to spare.

Victory in Holland would ensure their place regardless of results elsewhere, while even a draw would be enough if AIK cannot record a surprise win over Napoli.
