Brazilian defender Lucas Mendes believes playing two of their next three Europa League games at home will be a big advantage to Marseille.

The Ligue 1 side are level in second place in Group C along with their opponents Borussia Monchengladbach and three points behind leaders Fenerbahce.

He said: "Regarding the UEFA Europa League, the positive point is to play two of our next three games at the Stade Velodrome. It is an undeniable asset.

"The only goal is to take the three points. We played (all of) our opponents in Group C. We can beat them all, but we must also be wary,'' Mendes added on www.om.net.

Marseille returned to winning ways in Ligue 1 with a 2-0 victory over Ajaccio with a goal apiece from brothers Andre and Jordan Ayew.

The win ended a run of three straight defeats in all competitions and also took Marseille back level on points with Paris St Germain at the top of the table, the success at the Stade Francois Coty being Marseille's first in Ligue 1 since September 23 and a first triumph in the Corsican city since 2003.

Monchengladbach's experienced captain Filip Daems believes it is imperative his side build on their last Europa League victory over Marseille in the reverse fixture.

Following the Bundesliga win over Hannover 96 and a draw with Freiburg at the weekend former Belgian international Daems is looking for a repeat of the home Group C win over Marseille which improved his side's chances of qualification for the next stage of the competition.

"We have a lot of gifted young players and it's really good for them to be able to play in the Europa League and get this experience,'' said Daems.

Daems told uefa.com: "The win has helped our chances of progressing, but we can't afford to lose in Marseille.''
