Jorge Costa will have little time to prepare for the Europa League Group C clash against Fenerbahce after being named the new coach of AEL Limassol on the eve of the match.

The Cypriot champions parted company with Charalambos Christodoulou on Monday and wasted no time in announcing the former SC Braga and CFR 1907 Cluj boss Costa as their new coach.

A club statement released by the club today said: "The AEL board announces the appointment of Mr Jorge Costa. The Portuguese coach has signed a deal until the end of the 2013/14 season.''

Costa takes over from Charalambous, who guided AEL to the Cypriot championship for the first time in 44 years last season.

The new manager has experience of winning European competitions as a player after he captained Porto to glory in the 2002/03 UEFA Cup and 2003/04 UEFA Champions League.

Limassol were thumped 5-1 by group leaders Marseille in France earlier this month but will hope to maintain their unbeaten record at home when Fenerbahce make their first Europa League trip to Cyprus.

The two sides have never met before but Aykut Kocaman's Fenerbahce will be hoping to test AEL's strength at home.

If the Turkish side score, it will be their 100th goal in the UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League in what will be their 71st game in the competition.

Fenerbahce drew their opening match against Marseille, who jointly lead the group with the Turkish side, and will be looking to follow up on their 4-2 away win of Borussia Monchengladbach on matchday two.
