St Mirren captain Jim Goodwin returns from suspension for the home Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with St Johnstone.

The midfielder missed the Scottish Cup fourth-round win over Brechin City last week but will come back in for the visit of the Perth men.

Striker Steven Thompson is also back in the squad after recovering from a hip injury.

Boss Danny Lennon expects the Paisley club's desire to keep star midfielder Kenny McLean to be tested in January.

The highly-rated Scotland under-21 midfielder has been linked with Burnley and Wolves among others and he underlined his promise last week with the opening goal against Brechin.

Ahead of the clash with St Johnstone, Lennon admitted that he is getting ready for official interest in the 20-year-old to soon be registered.

He said: "I am bracing myself to be fair.

"I haven't spoken to Kenny but the best thing that he can do is to keep doing his talking on the pitch and what will come for him will come, there is no doubt about that.

"We haven't had direct or official interest but it is no secret, you see scouts at every home game.

"But I welcome anyone to come and see what we are doing at our football club, it is a sign that we are heading in the right direction.

"Sometimes it is out of your control but as long as we are getting the best out of him every time he puts on a black and white jersey then he is doing his job.''

Dave Mackay begins a two-match ban for St Johnstone but fellow defender Frazer Wright is free to play before a one-game SPL suspension kicks in.

Kevin Moon, Peter Pawlett, Callum Davidson and Paddy Cregg are all available after injury.

But David McCracken, Craig Beattie, Jamie Adams and David Robertson are all injured.
