Sixth hosts second in the Bundesliga tomorrow, but Freiburg coach Christian Streich has dismissed claims that his side belong in a club with Germany's elite.

They trail opponents Bayer Leverkusen by nine points and that gap can be better summed up as a gulf which Freiburg cannot even imagining bridging over, according to Streich.

"We are not a top club in the Bundesliga,'' he said. "We only have three points more than 12th place so that's nothing to do with being a top club.

"We have 27 points and we're pleased with them, but we have nothing to do with the top of the league.

"A top club in Germany is different. They are Borussia Dortmund, Bayern, Bayer Leverkusen, or Schalke.

"We've done well given what we've got, and we've always been on a par with our opponents, I'll accept that, but the rest is all dreaming which could mislead us because it's not the reality.''

Were the season to end now, though, Freiburg would qualify for the Europa League and Streich gave his players credit for what they have achieved so far.

"They are extremely focused and give it everything they have got,'' he said at a press conference.

"We see that in every training session and that is what enables us to be able to compete at this level at all.''

Leverkusen's joint coach Sami Hyypia is taking Freiburg's current league position and form a little more seriously, on the other hand.

"It's going to be a difficult game for us,'' he said. "Freiburg showed over the whole of 2012 how well and aggressively they can play.

"We've got to accept the battle from the off and not let Freiburg's aggressive style upset us.

"At the same time, we've got to remain cool on the ball and do the basics well to get the right result.''
