Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel is wary of underestimating Augsburg despite their lowly position in the Bundesliga table.
While Mainz are pressing for a place in Europe tomorrow's hosts are battling a relegation scrap that they have at least started to show signs of winning in the past month.
Second-bottom Augsburg are unbeaten since the winter break with five points from a possible nine in the new year and, while they remain well behind automatic safety, the relegation play-off place is well within their sights.
Tuchel is therefore set to take no chances at the SGL Arena where he will be able to call on topscorer Adam Szalai following suspension.
"There are easier assignments,'' he told reporters.
"They're very united, they trust their coach and now they have hope that they can really make use of the second half of the season.
"It will be a tough game because patience will be called for. It looks like being cold as well so all our character will be called upon.''
Mainz were thumped 3-0 by leaders Bayern Munich last weekend to dent their European ambitions.
Szalai is, however, back in the mix having scored 11 goals in his past 19 Bundesliga appearances.
The visitors will be without influential midfielder Nicolai Muller who is suspended while Niko Bungert and Maxim Choupo-Moting remain sidelined.
Augsburg coach Markus Weinzierl will wait on left-back Matthias Ostrzolek, who was suffering with a cold late in the week, as he looks to continue his side's recent form.
"We want to continue our positive run and win the game,'' he told the club's official website.
"We can go into the game with confidence.
"We have stabilised in recent games and if we are bold and aggressive and defend well again we can keep the pressure on.''
